MADISON, Wisc. -
The La Salle men's cross country team competed in the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational on Friday afternoon, in the nation's premier cross country event of the fall.

Senior Alfredo Santana led the Explorer charge, finishing the 8K race in 24:11, good for 76th in the 316-runner field. La Salle finished 42nd of 45 teams at the event, ouperforming Ivy League members Cornell and Brown as well as Nebraska.

"This is the most stacked meet anyone currently on the team has ever run," Santana said.

"I'm happy with my individual performance but not satisfied. I made some mistakes during the race that caused me 10-20 seconds and my performance suffered because of those mistakes. Overall I think everyone could if ran better races which includes myself."

Head coach Dan Ireland acknowledged the level of competition and believes his team will be better for the experience.

"The actual course was perfect and very fast," Ireland said. "The field was easily the best ever assembled for one race during the regular season in the history of the NCAA's."

"This race will serve as additional motivation for the remainder of the season," he added. "Both squads know we are capable of racing at a much higher level, as show earlier in the season at our previous races."

The Explorers run again on October 27 in the Atlantic 10 Championships held at the Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia. La Salle will look to defend its A-10 title after capturing the banner a year ago.
