LEESBURG, Va. - Meghan McGlinchey dominated the field for the second consecutive week and the La Salle women's cross country team took first place at the Mason Invitatational on Saturday afternoon.

McGlinchey finished the 5870 meter race in 20:44.8, crossing the finish line 1:38 before the second place runner. She caught her breath in time to see six of her teammates finish in the top 11 in the 80-runner field.

"I was happy with how I ran this weekend," McGlinchey said. "The goal was for me to go out hard from the start to get used to a different way of racing and to put some pressure on myself."

"I normally go out a little more relaxed so I really tested myself this weekend," she added. "I would have liked to have a faster time but it was definitely one of the toughest courses we have ever run."

"McGlinchey ran a great race today especially given the fact that she was all alone on a very difficult course," head coach Dan Ireland said. "She is training and racing at a very high level right now and we are very excited for the rest of the season."

Wendy Hutchinson finished second (22:06.8) while Stephanie Bearish (22:23.6) and Michelle Capozzi (22:31.4) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Christa Strycharz (23:05.3) ended up seventh while Samantha Gallagher (23:10.8) , Elizabeth Walker (23:12.1), and Meghan Lutz (23:23.3) finished ninth through eleventh, respectively.

"The women ran a very tough competitive race today over a very difficult course," Ireland said. "Hutchinson, Bearish, and Capozzi ran very good races," he added.

"As a team we had our best race so far which just showed the strength of our top girls to perform well on a course full of hills," McGlinchey said. "We trained through this race so it was a good to see improvements even though we are still working hard during the week."

As a team, La Salle compiled a miniscule 18 points; George Mason, the second-place finisher, ended with 84 points.

The Explorer women run again on Friday, October 12 at the Adidas Wisconsin Invitational.
