PHILADELPHIA – Paul Reilly and
Alfredo Santana have been named to the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference team for outdoor track and field, the conference office announced Thursday. La Salle joined Rhode Island as the only two schools to have more than one representative on the men's team.
“It means a lot to our track program and to the university that we had two young men be recognized for their academics,” head coach Dan Ireland said. “La Salle has always produced and will continue to put forth athletes that have a very strong commitment to putting their academics at the top of their priorities. Reilly and Santana are both prime examples of exactly what it means to be successful student athlete at La Salle University.”
Reilly crossed the finish line second in the 800m run at the A-10 Championships, coming in at 2:52.19. The Dresher, Pa. native also anchored the 4x800m relay team which placed second as well with a 7:32.33. The senior ran the last leg of the 4x800m indoor relay team which broke the previous school record with a 7:27.87 at the IC4A Championships in March.
Reilly, who was a 2012 USTFCCCA All-Academic choice, has posted a 3.52 GPA as a criminal justice major.
Santana took home Performer of the Meet Honors at the A-10 Outdoor Championships after winning both the 5,000m (14:25.19) and 10,000m (29:58.69) runs. The Nueva Esperanza product also captured the Performer of the Meet title at the Indoor Championships after winning both the 3,000m and 5,000m runs. The Philadelphia native won the 2011 A-10 Cross Country Championships as well, becoming the second-ever A-10 performer to earn Performer of the Meet honors in all three seasons.
Santana, who was an A-10 All-Academic selection for cross country as well, has notched a 3.18 GPA as a psychology major.
