PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle volleyball team has earned a Public Recognition Award from the NCAA for earning a Academic Progress Rate (APR) score that ranked in the top 10 percent nationally in its sport, it was announced today.
There were 976 Division I teams honored by the NCAA for earning Public Recognition Awards, based on their most recent multi-year Academic Progress Rate. The teams publicly recognized for high achievement represent 594 women's teams and 382 men's or mixed squads. Top performing APRs this year ranged from 978 to a perfect 1,000, with the majority of teams earning a perfect APR.
The Atlantic 10 ranked fourth in number of teams recognized among 32 Division I leagues. The NCAA will release this year's full APR report, with the most recent data on June 11.
Each year, the NCAA honors selected Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest multiyear NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR). The most recent APRs are multi-year rates based on scores from the 2008-09, 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2011-12 academic years.
This announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
