PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle men's soccer team tied the Temple Owls 2-2 after two scoreless overtime periods at a rain-soaked McCarthy Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Explorers took a 1-0 lead just just 38 seconds into the game on a cross from
Andrew Connors that
Matt Robinson delivered inside the left post.
La Salle continued to push the tempo as
Joe Farrell made it 2-0 in favor of the Explorers in the 14
th minute. Farrell controlled a feed from
George Breslin that he pushed off the diving keeper's fingertips and into the back of the net.
The Owls wouldn't go quietly in the second half, scoring in the 48
th minute to get on the board and then netting the equalizer in the 84
th minute to force overtime. Temple had 15 of their 24 shots and five of their seven corner kicks in the second half.
La Salle (0-3-1) worked efficiently in their offensive third, landing seven of their 13 total shots on target on the afternoon. Temple (1-3-1) keeper Dan Sheck recorded a game-high five saves to keep the Owls alive after La Salle's early onslaught.
The Explorers continue nonconference action on Wednesday as they visit the Loyola Greyhounds in Baltimore at 7 p.m.
