PHILADELPHIA - La Salle University men's basketball standout
B.J. Johnson will return for his senior season with the Explorers, head coach
Dr. John Giannini announced on Tuesday. Johnson, who was a First Team All-Big 5 selection this past season, had previously declared for the NBA Draft on March 23.
"B.J. received great feedback from exploring his NBA potential," Giannini said. "He is extremely focused and motivated to improve himself and our team to reach his highest goals. He had interest to workout for several teams. However, he has some minor health issues from last season that would be best to take care of now to maximize his preparations for next season. He has decided to take that route and it bodes well for him and our team."
Johnson led La Salle in both scoring and rebounding in 2016-17, averaging 17.6 points and 6.3 rebounds per outing. The versatile 6-7 forward was also a Second Team All-District honoree by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, and became just the 30th player in school history to score 500 or more points in a single season.
The Explorers return four starters and a number of key reserves from last season, and will begin the 2017-18 campaign in November.
