A decorated runner during a golden era of La Salle cross country, Fennelly helped the Explorers to four straight Atlantic 10 team titles over the course of his career. One of three La Salle runners to earn All-Atlantic 10 Cross Country Team honors four times, he placed fourth overall as a freshman en route to being named Most Outstanding Rookie of the Meet. As a sophomore, he picked up NCAA All-Region Team accolades - a distinction he also earned his senior year. On the track, he had just as much success, winning Atlantic 10 championships in both the outdoor 1500m and 5000m runs.
He set new conference records in both events, and was also a member of the gold-medal winning indoor distance medley relay team. Over the course of his career, he set school records in 3000m indoors and 5000m outdoors, was a five-time second team all-conference in track, and helped the Explorers to the 2003 A-10 Indoor Track & Field Championship. Following graduation, he also qualified for the 2009 United States Track & Field Indoor Championship in the 3000-meter run.
