The Mission of Project TeamWork
Project TeamWork is the youth outreach and community service initative sponsored by La Salle University's Division of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation. Project TeamWork utilizes La Salle student-athletes and coaches as mentors and role models to youth who need academic, social, and/or emotional support.
Who are Project TeamWork Mentors?
Project TeamWork mentors are La Salle student-athletes and coaches who serve as mentors and role models for Philadelphia area youth. Student-athletes must meet program criteria and have an interest in helping children in the local community.Project TeamWork supports the following community-based organizations and programs in the Philadelphia area:
Project TeamWork Services
Tutoring
Student-athletes volunteer their time to tutor area youth in cooperation with the La Salle Mentoring program.
Campus Visitations
Campus visits are arranged to bring youth to the La Salle campus to experience college life and to make educational attainment a goal.
Speakers Bureau
Coaches, athletes, professors and administrators speak with area youth about staying in school, leadership skills, and staying away from gangs, drugs, and alcohol to reduce "at-risk" behavior.
Clinics and Workshops
Many athletic teams sponsor or participate in clinics which teach techniques and principles of their sport. These clinics introduce the sport to students and help encourage students to live an active and healthy lifestyle.
Explorer Incentive Program
Project TeamWork youth are provided with incentives for positive behavior (e.g., tickets to La Salle athletic events). Athletes and coaches encourage the setting and achievement of goals.
Explorer Kids
Corporate and individual levels of sponsorship allow children to attend athletic events and be recognized for their accomplishments. The signature Explorer Kids event each year is a men's or women's mid-week afternoon basketball game, where students fill the stands at Gola Arena. Explorer Kids funds are used to bus students into La Salle's campus and purchase the students lunch before the game.
Adopt-A-School/Adopt-A-Center Program
La Salle teams and student-athletes will adopt area schools and youth centers and coordinate special programs for youth and their families.
