PHILADLEPHIA, PA (October 12, 2003) - The La Salle University women's soccer team won its first game of the season as they defeated Temple, 4-0, Sunday at McCarthy Stadium.
The Explorers, who had been shutout in their previous three home games, finally got on the board when senior Krista Lee scored in the 35th minute on an assist from freshman Ashley Cassel.
For Lee it was her fourth goal of the year and 22nd of her career, which puts her third on the school's all-time goal list. Her 59 career points is good for fourth on that list. Cassel's assist is her first as an Explorer.
La Salle added two more goals in the 63rd and 68th minutes of the game. Courtney White scored her first of the year off an assist from Rachael Tobin, and then Cassel scored her first goal as an Explorer, assisted by Erin McNulty.
Anne Shovlin sealed La Salle's first win of the season as she headed in a corner kick from Jessica Eisele at the 85:20 mark. It was Shovlin's first goal as an Explorer as well.
Marisa Suarez recorded her first shutout of the season, the second of her career, as she had five saves in the win.
Temple (2-10-1, 0-5 A-10) managed just six shots on goal, two in the first half.
La Salle (1-9-1, 1-4 A-10) will continue its homestand with two more Atlantic 10 matches next weekend. They will host Massachusetts (Fri. 17th, 3 pm) and Rhode Island (Sun. 19th, 1 pm).
