Philadelphia, PA - La Salle fell to the hawks today at St. Joseph's University 3-2. The Explorers now are 0-3 in the Atlantic 10 and face Villanova on Tuesday at Villanova. La Salle and St. Joseph's were tied with 17 shots apiece, but the Explorers just couldn't rebound from the late first half goal by the Hawks.
The Explorers opened up the scoring with a goal from senior Tracey Guenther (Willow Grove, PA/Upper Moreland) with 11 minutes left in the first half. The Hawks tied the score after a controversial call with a minute to go in the first half leading to the Hawks goal with one second remaining..
The Explorers came out in the second half looking sharp in the early going, but failed to pick up the quick much needed go ahead goal. The Hawks Nicole Antonini took advantage by capitalizing off a rebound making the score 2-1.
The Hawks netted another with 4 minutes left in the second half to ensure the victory. The Explorers did not give up without a fight as sophomore forward Emily Simone found the mesh withn a little over a minute left, but the goal proved to be to little too late as the Hawks went on to win.
Junior goalie Colleen Bolger (Berlin, NJ/Eastern Regional) recorded 9 saves in 70 minutes of action for the Explorers. The Explorers return to Atlantic 10 action Saturday October 25th against Rhode Island home at Hank De Vincent field at 11:00 am.
