CINCINNATI, OH (October 26, 2003) - The La Salle University women's soccer team dropped its second straight 3-1 decision on its Ohio trip, as Xavier came from behind to get the victory Sunday at the Xavier University Soccer Complex.
La Salle wasted little time in jumping out on top as freshman Shelby Reese took advantage of an opening deep in the XU defense. She scored just 2:07 into the match and the Explorers took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
Xavier (9-7-1, 5-4 A-10) tied the score at the 66:15 mark as sophomore Molly Finnerty served a long pass to sophomore Angie Scarlato inside the box. Scarlato then served it up to an attacking Lauren Giesting, who punched in the game-tying goal.
The Musketeers got what proved to be the game-winning goal as freshman Amber Silvis weaved her way around the La Salle defenders inside the box and drilled the ball past the goalkeeper. Xavier got a late insurance goal as senior Tracy Veith connected on a penalty kick with less than two minutes left, at the 88:23 mark.
La Salle (2-12-1, 2-7 A-10) return to Philadelphia for its final two games of the year this weekend. They host Richmond next Friday, October 31 at 3 PM at McCarthy Stadium and end their regular season with George Washington Sunday at 1 PM.
