Dayton, OH - In the opening week of Atlantic 10 play, the La Salle Explorers hit the road for a weekend trip to Ohio, taking on the Dayton Flyers Friday evening at the Thomas J. Frericks Center. The Explorers found themselves on the short end of a 3-0 match that last an hour and a half. Dayton improved to 12-7 overall and notched their first Atlantic 10 win of the season, while La Salle fell to 7-12 and 0-2 in conference play.

Junior Lauren Woods (Akron, OH/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) rebounded from an ankle injury in the Temple match Tuesday night to lead the Explorers with 11 kills. Woods posted a .474 hitting percentage on 19 attempts with just two errors.

On defense, freshman Carolyn Judge (West Chester, PA/Bishop Shanahan) tallied nine digs to pace the Explorers, while fellow freshman Kristen Kelsey (Buda, TX/Jack C. Hays) and junior libero Amanda Woods (Cincinnati, OH/McNicholas) each added eight digs for La Salle.

For the Flyers, junior Christy Utnage (Indianapolis, IN) led the Dayton with 13 kills, while senior Shannon Gardner (Beavercreek, OH) added 12 on the night with only two errors giving her a .417 hitting percentage. Sophomore Nicole Schott (Roscoe, IL) led in assists with 31 and in digs with 11. Freshman Faye Barhorst (Ft. Loramie, OH) and junior Shanna Pressler (Archbold, OH) led in blocks with two each.

La Salle conitues its opening week of conference play, staying in Ohio to face the Xavier Musketeers Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
