Explorers Drop 3-1 Decision to Spiders


Philadelphia, PA - The La Salle University Men's Soccer team fell to the University of Richmond Spiders 3-1, Friday evening.

Richmond got on the board first at the 3:28 mark when freshman Andre Townsend (Kingston, Jamaica) sailed a free kick to sophomore Chris Lahoud (Fort Worth, Tex.) who then headed it to Chris Zuk (Baltimore, Md.) to lead Richmond into halftime with a 1-0 advantage.

The, eventual, game-winning goal was netted by Richmond's Jimmy Budd (Berwyn, Pa.) off passes from sophomore Steven Wolfe (Richmond, Va.) and junior Paul Kelly (Durban, South Africa) at the 50:37 mark.

La Salle notched their first goal of the game in the 64th minute when Tom Kenney (Philadelphia, PA/Chestnut Hill) converted off a rebound shot taken by Kevin Coleman (Media, PA/Penncrest)that slipped past the Spider's senior goalkeeper Mike Nwaner's (Maplewood, N.J.) hands. This was Kenney's fourth goal of the season, he leads the 2003 squad in goals and points, it was Coleman's second assist of the season, he is second in both goals and points.

The Spiders added an insurance goal off a goal kick by Nwaneri to sophomore Colin Vint (Fairfax, Va.) at 82:54. Nwaneri tallied seven saves, including two diving saves in the final fifteen minutes, to secure the win, while La Salle goalie Stash Graham (Tampa, FL/Jesuit) registered four.
