Explorers Drop 1-0 Decision to Dukes

Philadelphia, PA - The La Salle University Men's Soccer Team dropped a 1-0 decision to the Duquesne University Dukes today, Sunday, October 05, 2003 at McCarthy Stadium on the campus of La Salle University.

The Explorers struggled to find an offensive rhythm through most of the first half, while their defense handled just about everything the Dukes threw at them. Junior goalie Stash Graham (Tampa, FL/Jesuit) led the La Salle defense recording three saves in the game.

At the 36:20 mark Dukes' sophomore Pat Dillon (Langhorne, PA/Holy Ghost Prep) scored the only goal of the game. Dillon knocked the ball in after sophomore Scott Gibson (Carlin Howe, Redcar {England}/Huntcliff Sec. Glasgow University of Scotland) took and indirect kick for Duquesne which La Salle junior Kevin Coleman (Media, PA/Penncrest) got the first touch on, Dillon got the second touch and the goal for the Dukes.

La Salle went into the locker room down by one at the half. The Explorers offense found it's rhythm in the second half, but Duquesne's freshman goalie Zach Varga (Mountville, PA/Hempfield) stopped everything La Salle got near the net.

The Dukes went on to win the game 1-0, as the Explorers fell to 3-4-3 on the season and 1-1 in the Atlantic 10 conference. La Salle will continue conference action as they travel to Saint Joseph's this Friday, October 10 and then to Temple on Sunday the 12th
