BURLINGTON, VT. - The La Salle Explorer field hockey finished the weekend with a 3-1 victory over Vermont at Archie Post Field. The Explorers improved to 3-1 overall, while Vermont remains winless at 0-4.
The teams played even in the first half, with neither team able to find the back of the cage. The Explorers scored first early in the second half when freshman Amy Comstock (Orangeville, PA/Benton) snapped the scoring drought at 31:31 on an assist to senior Amanda Spalding (Lansdale, PA/North Penn).
Vermont's Whitney Gage (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Kimball Union) then scored on a penalty stroke - Vermont's second of the game - with 22:19 left to even the score.
With 14:05 remaining in regulation, Comstock netted an unassisted goal, which proved to be the game winner. Senior Laura Whitman (Philadelphia, PA/St. Hubert) scored La Salle's final goal, off a deflection, with just nine seconds remaining.
Junior goalkeeper Colleen Bolger (Berlin, NJ/Eastern Regional) stopped eight Vermont shots, while sophomore Ariel Eber (Plainfield, N.J./Newark Academy) made three saves for the Catamounts.
The Explorers will look to make it four in-a-row when they travel to Monmouth on Friday at 4:00 p.m.
