Explorers Drop 69-47 Decision to Blue Hens


Newark, DE - John Miller's La Salle University Women's Basketball team fell to the University of Delaware Blue Hens 69-47 at the Frank Acierno Arena on the campus of the University of Delaware tonight, Wednesday, December 03, 2003.

The Explorers struggled offensively the entire first half shooting just 21.9% from the field on 7-32 shooting, while the Blue Hens shot 41.9% and out rebounded the Explorers 28-21. La Salle went into the locker room down 38-20.

La Salle came out strong in the second half and got the game to within 11 points behind the charge of junior Jill Marano (Crofton, MD/Arundel), who scored nine points between the 16 minute mark and nine minute mark of the second half.

The Blue Hens answered and held on to the lead for the remainder of the game going up 22 points with just under six minutes to go in the game. Delaware was led by juniors Tiffany Young (14) and Julie Sailer (15).

La Salle sophomore Davineia Payne (Bear, DE/Caravel Academy) led the team in rebounds with ten. Marano tallied 14 points in the loss, while freshman Crista Ricketts (Douglasville, PA/Daniel Boone) added 10 points and nine rebounds. This was the fifth double digit performance by Ricketts.

La Salle, now 3-2, will return home to the Tom Gola Arena and host the Villanova Wildcats this Saturday, December 6th for a 1:00 p.m. tip off.
