(Finish Second in Pride Invitational)
HEMPSTEAD, NY - Coming off a 2-1 loss to Hofstra in the 2003 season opener just a day earlier, the La Salle Explorers were looking to rebound and put their first win in their record book. On day two of Hofstra's Pride Invitational, the Explorers faced Sacred Heart and walked away with a 4-2 win, evening their record to 1-1.
After falling behind 2-1, La Salle knocked down three goals with less than 20 minutes remaining in regulation for the 4-2 victory.
Senior Tracy Guenther (Willow Grove, PA/Upper Moreland) put La Salle on the scoreboard first, with 1:49 remaining in the first half off a pass from freshman Laura Farley (Burke, VA/Robinson Secondary).
Tied at the break, Sacred Heart's Julie Messener netted the go-ahead goal for the Pioneers just 3:07 into the second half.
It was La Salle junior Sara Camilli (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) who registered a hat trick in the second half, including the game-winning goal with 17:49 left in the game. Camilli was assisted twice by Amy Dalrymple (Hanover, PA/Southwestern) and once by senior Amanda Spalding (Lansdale, PA/North Penn).
On defense, sophomore Jen Rauscher (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Carroll) posted a defensive save in the game, while goalkeeper Colleen Bolger (Berlin, NJ/Eastern Regional) tallied six saves.
La Salle will hit the road again on Friday, September 5th when they take on Albany at 1:00 p.m.
