South Orange, NJ - In the final match of the 2003 Seton Hall Spikefest volleyball tournament, the La Salle Explorers cam up short in a 3-1 loss to host Seton Hall at Walsh Gym. La Salle finished the weekend with a 2-2 record in the tournament.
It was veterans who led the way for La Salle, with Robyn Wright (Salem, OH/Salem) and Lauren Woods (Akron, OH/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) dropping 11 and 12 kills respectively on the Pirates.
Junior Caitlin DeJong (Lansing, IL/Marian Catholic) missed a double-double by one kill, posting nine kills and 10 digs in the match. Classmate Amanda Woods (Cincinnati, OH/McNicholas) totaled nine digs on defense.
Also on defense, Lauren Woods recorded La Salle's lone solo block, while teamming up for two assisted blocks.
Eighteen was the lucky number for the Pirates, with Shawn Mahmoudi and Jenna Myers raining down 18 kills each on the Explorers. Katherine Whitney chipped in 10 kills of her own for Seton Hall.
Seton Hall put four players in double-digit digs with Whitney tallying a match-high 16. Meyers added 10 as did Shawn McDonald; Nicole Kelly added 12.
