La Salle Gets Back On Track - Downs St. Francis (NY)

Brooklyn, NY - The La Salle Explorer volleyball team snapped a 4 game losing streak by downing the St. Francis (NY) Terriers on Wednesday night in the inaugural game at the Anthony Genovesi Center. The home court advantage did not prove true for the Terriers, as the Explorers handed St. Francis their first loss in their new home, falling 3-0. With the win, La Salle improves to 7-9, while the Terriers fall to 2-10.

The Terriers pushed game one to the limit and beyond, but in the end it was La Salle that took the win 32-30. Games two and three proved to be easy, downing St. Francis 30-18 and 30-16 to claim the victory.

It was freshman Caitlin Conner (Willow Springs, IL/Lyons Township) provided the Explorer spark, dominating both the offensive and defensive categories. Conner dropped 22 kills on the Terriers and assisted on an additional 25 kills. On the defensive side, Conner tallied 16 digs and was strong at the net with two solo block and three assisted blocks. Conner also served La Salle's lone ace of the match.

Robyn Wright (Salem, PA/Salem) and Kristen Kelsey (Buda, TX/Jack C. Hays) each contributed nine kills for the Explorers' offense. Nine was the magic number on defense also, as Lauren Woods (Akron, OH/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) and Caitlin DeJong (Lansing, IL/Marian Catholic) added nine digs each.

The Terriers were led by junior Maggie Szyszka with 11 kills and Natasha Green added 10 of her own. St. Francis was led on defense by Lucyna Halys and Kelly Quigley earning 13 and 12 digs respectively.

The Explorers will look for their next win Saturday night, when they travel to Delaware to face the Blue Hens at 7:00 p.m.
