Newark, DE - Looking to make it two in-a-row, the La Salle Explorers paid a visit to the Delaware Blue Hens in the team's last tune-up before conference play commences.
After dropping the first game of the match 30-23, the Explorers rebounded in games two and three, knocking off the Blue Hens 30-28 and 31-29 to take a 2 games to one advantage. Delaware woke up in game four, tying the match at 2-2 with a 30-25 win to force a game five. The Explorers did not put up much of fight in game five, being out-scored 15-7 to give the Blue Hens a 3-2 victory.
On offense for the Explorers, senior Robyn Wright (Salem, OH/Salem) dumped a team-high 15 kills on the Blue Hens. But it was junior Lauren Woods (Akron, OH/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) who turned-in an overall solid performance. Woods landed 14 kills, three aces, five solo and four assisted blocks to pace the Explorers. Also on offense, freshman Caitlin Conner (Willow Springs, IL/Lyons Township) assisted on 40 assists.
Defensively, Amanda Woods (Cincinnati, OH/McNicholas) and Carolyn Judge (West Cheter, PA/Bishop Shanahan) posted 14 and 11 digs respectively.
It was a career-high night for the Blue Hens, with junior co-captain Valerie Murphy posting a career-high 26 kills and sophomore Niecy Taylor added a career-high 16 in the Delaware win. Senior Allison Hunter also posted a career-high 69 assists for the Blue Hens.
The Explorers will open Atlantic 10 conference play this week when they host the Temple Owls at Gola Arena on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
