Hofstra defeats La Salle, 3-1

GREENSBORO, NC (SEPTEMBER 7, 2003) - Hofstra defeated La Salle, 3-1, in the final day of the 2003 UNCG/adidas Classic Presented by USA Staffing Sunday afternoon at the UNCG Soccer Field.

La Salle got on the board first as Krista Lee scored on a header off a perfect cross from Rachel Tobin at the 6:19 mark of the first half. Lee's header beat the keeper in the left side of the net. Lee is now tied for third on the school's all-time goals list with 21 (Linda Madeja, 1989-92).

La Salle had a chance to build upon its lead when Lee was awarded a penalty kick at the 28:26 mark. Lee's shot was stopped on a terrific play by Hofstra's goalkeeper Rebecca Wachsberger.

Seconds later Hofstra's Elyse Bizzozzaro's shot from the left side of the field went off the crossbar, but the Pride's Marisa Pistone gathered the loose ball and scored on a blast from 25 yards out to tie the score at one goal apiece.

Hofstra (4-0) was then awarded a penalty kick taken by Dolores Deasley after a La Salle penalty. Deasley placed the shot in the right side past a diving Marissa Suarez at the 66:07 mark of the second half to give the Pride a 2-1 advantage.

The Pride added an insurance goal off a corner kick in the 81st minute, when Bizzozzaro's goal gave them a 3-1 lead.

Thanks in part to the two goals she scored, Lee, along with Rachael Tobin and Alexis Petrucci, were named to the All-Tournament team

La Salle (0-3-1) will return home and host Stony Brook Friday, September 12 at 1 PM, as the first game of a doubleheader with the men's team.
