PHILADELPHIA, PA (January 17, 2004) - The La Salle women's swim team defeated the Drexel Dragons, 143-90, as they won eight events, while the men dropped a 124-117 decision despite a trio of victories by Sean Connors-McBride Saturday at Drexel University.
Freshman Mallory Kessler was the only double-winner for the women, grabbing firsts in the 200 IM (2:14.77) and the 200 Back (2:10.61).
Five other women won their events, while the 400 Medley Relay team kicked off the meet with a victory (4:08.61). The Explorers that also captured wins were freshman Jamie Polek in the 1000 Free (10:47.73), freshman Ashley Young in the 200 Fly (2:13.60), junior Courtney Lofgren in the 50 Free (25.52), junior Lauren Aleksinas in the 100 Free (56.37), and junior Jessica Phillips in the 200 Breast (2:26.87).
On the men's side, freshman Connors-McBride won three events, which included the 1000 Free (9:50.92), 200 Fly (1:56.14), and the 500 Free (4:43.19).
The men's 400 Medley Relay also kicked off the meet with a win (3:34.70), however only two other men raced to victory. Senior Eric Limbach grabbed a first in the 200 Free in a time of 1:45.05, and finished second in the 100 Free (48.37). Freshman Mike Ellerson won the 200 Back (1:57.00) and was second in the 200 IM (1:57.77).
Both swimming teams will compete in their final home meets of the season when they host Fordham and Seton Hall, Saturday, January 24 at 11 AM. It is Senior Day and Alumni Day at Kirk Pool.
