Explorers Drop Atlantic 10 Season Opener to the Colonials

Washington, DC - The La Salle Explorer volleyball team opened the Atlantic 10 conference season on the road against the George Washington Colonials. The Explorers fell to 7-10 overall and stand at 0-1 in conference play, while the Colonials improved to 4-8 overall and an even 1-1 in the Atlantic 10.

The Explorers were led by Samantha Takacs (Columbus, OH/Bishop Watterson) with 14 kills on 33 attempts for a .303 hitting percentyage. Sophomore Kristen Kelsey (Buda, TX/Jack C. Hays) followed with nine kills on 29 attempts.

On defense for the Explorers, senior Caitlin DeJong (Lansing, IL/Marian Catholic) led the way with 15 digs followed by Amanda Woods' (Cincinnati, OH/McNicholas) 11 digs.

George Washington's Juliene McLaughin turned in a match-high performance in kills with 19 (19-6-35, .371) and seven service aces.

The Colonials also got assistance from Molly Law who landed 10 kills and led the teams with 14 digs.

The Explorers will continue on the road in Atlantic 10 action tomorrow, taking on the Duquesne Dukes at 4:00 p.m.
