Late Second Half Goal Lifts Owls Over Explorers 2-1

PHILADELPHIA, PA - The La Salle University men's soccer team dropped to 7-4-1 on the season and 3-2 in the Atlantic 10 conference falling to the Temple Owls 2-1 today Friday, October 15, 2004. Temple scored a goal with just over two minutes remaining in regulation for the victory.

The Explorers got on the scoreboard first when junior Josh France (Wilmington, DE/Salesianum) lofted a ball from midfield to freshman Ryan Dougherty (Wilmington, DE/Salesianum). Dougherty played the ball to the box and fired it passed Temple goalie Patrick Hannigan. La Salle tooke the 1-0 lead at the 28:21 mark and held onto it for over ten minutes.

Temple then tied the game up when senior Nate Webb fired a shot at La Salle goalie Stash Graham (Tampa, FL/Jesuit). Graham blocked the shot, but Temple sophomore Ryan Heins was there for the rebound and tied the game up at one with just over 5:30 left in the period.

The game remained tied throughout most of the second half, in a game that was lopsided in shots in the first half with the Owls out shooting La Salle 11-5, and found it evened out in the second half with four shots a piece. La Salle senior Kevin Coleman (Media, PA/Penncrest) was called for a foul leaving the Owls with a direct kick. Temple connected on the kick as sophomore Tom Birch found junior Nick Ebersole for the game winner.

Graham finished the game with six saves, while Hannigan tallied two. Graham now has 71 saves on the season and is 34 saves away from the school record of 457 set by Paul Centofanti (1986-89).

La Salle will continue action at home as they host the Saint Joseph's University Hawks this Sunday, October 17th at 1:00 p.m. in McCarthy Stadium.
