Explorers Drop Game 1-0 to the Blue Hens
Newark, DE - In a rare evening game for the La Salle Explorer field hockey team, the Explorers fell to the #15 ranked Delaware Blue Hens at Rullo Stadium. The Explorers fall to 5-9 overall, while the Blue Hens improve to 9-6 for the season.
The Explorers held tough, playing more than 80 minutes scoreless, before Delaware's Erica LaBar netted the game winning goal with 5:33 remaining in the overtime period. Geib was assisted by Stephanie Swain to lift the Blue Hens to victory.
The Explorers were out shot 7-11, with three of Delaware's shots coming in the overtime period. The Blue Hens also earned move penalty corners, holding a 10-3 advantage.
La Salle goalkeeper Colleen Bolger guarded the Explorers cage all 85 minutes, posting seven saves in the contest. Delaware goalkeeper Megan Allen also saw 85 minutes and tallied four saves, while LaBar also recorded a defensive save.
The Explorers return to Atlantic 10 action when they visit the Richmond Spiders on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
