The La Salle University women's crew team competed in The Navy Day Regatta, their first race of the fall season, on Saturday October 16th. The race was 5,000 meters, or 2.5 miles, long down river on the Schuylkill River. With a late start in the season and not ample water time practice, La Salle was only entered in the college four, club 4 and college 8 races.
The crew's first competition was the college 4, which consisted of: Suzanne Patackis, Therese Pomeroy, Rose Fisher, Kelly Zavertnik and coxswain Alexa Roop. They posted a 7th place finish out of 15 elite competitors with a time of 18:54.7. University of Pennsylvania finished first with a time of 16:54.7.
The second race of the day was the club 4, which consisted of: Rita Brown, Becky Mahney, Sarah Turner, Aimee Nichols and coxswain Kellie Fagan. La Salle ranked 2nd out of only three boats with a time of 19:34.1. Vassar was teh only boat not stopped by La Salle and was less then 20 seconds ahead with a time of 19:16.1.
The final constest of the day was the college 8, which consisted of: Suzanne Patackis, Kelly Zavertnik, Rita Brown, Therese Pomeroy, Sarah Turner, Becky Mahney, Rose Fisher, Aimee Nichols and coxswain Kellie Fagan. They finished 11th out of 13 with a decent time of 16:16.6. U.S. Naval Academy placed 1st with a time of 14:50.
