Posted by: Matthew Smith (215-951-1637)Richmond, Va- The La Salle University Women's Soccer team continued their southern roadtrip this afternoon and were unable to salvage a victory, falling to the University of Richmond, 2-0, at First Market Stadium.
The Spiders (4-4-1, 2-1-0) scored only two minutes into the contest when Whitney Sikes gathered a pass near mid-field, dribbled up the right side, and unleashed a shot that found the left corner. The assist was given to Kelsey Blank.
After that, the Explorer defense tightened, but the offense was never able to get on track. The game remained scoreless until the 85:35 mark when Richmond freshman Ali Levine scored her first career goal, which put the game out of reach.
For the Explorers, Kristin Hextall (Voorhees, NJ/Bishop Eustace) again led the way with four shots. Heather Barclay (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph by the Sea) was next with three shots.
Kerry Schamberger (Levittown, NY/St. Anthony's) went the distance in net, making five saves.
The loss drops La Salle to 5-4-2 on the season, and 1-2-0 in the conference.
Explorers will look to regain their early-season swagger on Friday, October 8th, when they host Duquesne at 1:00 PM. Please log onto GoExplorers.com for updated game announcements.
