Explorers Stomp Spiders 3-0


La Salle senior Graham tied the school record in career shutouts in 3-0 victory

PHILADELPHIA, PA - The La Salle University men's soccer teams remains undefeated in the Atlantic 10 conference after a 3-0 romping of the University of Richmond today, Sunday, October 03, 2004. The shutout marks the fourth of the season for the Explorers and third for senior co-captain Stash Graham (Tampa, FL/Jesuit). Graham now has 18 career shutouts, tying him for the record in the La Salle record books.

La Salle freshman Jeremy Ortiz (Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) scored the first goal of the game just over seven minutes into the game. Junior Ryan Moseley (Nassau, Bahamas/Queens College HS) recorded the assist on the game winner.

The Explorers added another goal in the first half when freshman Andrew Perez (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) scored his fourth goal of the season. Sophomore Jeff Spiker (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) crossed the ball from the left corner of the field and found Perez, who headed the ball in to put La Salle up 2-0 as they broke for the half.

La Salle proceeded to score one more goal in the game as junior Scott Golden (Tampa, FL/Jesuit) found sophomore Matt Kelly (Philadelphia, PA/La Salle) off a corner kick. The goal was Kelly's first of the season and first of his collegiate career.

Graham, the Explorer's goalie, tallied 11 saves in the victory as did Richmond goalie Eric Sciocchetti. Graham has 54 saves this season, and his 11-save performance today makes him second all-time in career shutouts at La Salle with 406, he is 51 saves behind the leader Paul Centofanti (1986-1989) who has 457.

La Salle improves to 6-2-1 overall and remains undefeated in the Atlantic 10 conference at 2-0. This is the best start for the Explorers since the 1996 season when they won nine of their first 11 games. La Salle will continue A-10 action as they travel to Duquesne this Friday, October 8th for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
