PHILADELPHIA, PA - The La Salle University Women's Soccer team was defeated by the Dayton Flyers, 1-0, on Senior Day at McCarthy Stadium. With the loss, the Explorers finish the season at 10-7-2.
The lone goal came five minutes into the game when Dayton forward Natalia Walters took a pass from Reba Sedlacek, pivoted, and hit a low-liner into the right corner of the goal.
The Explorers had several chances to knot the score in the second half, including three corner kicks, but could not convert. Freshman Kristin Hextall (Voorhees, NJ/Bishop Eustace) was relentless along the front line, and had several chances that drifted just wide.
Hextall finished the game with three shots.
Also playing strong games for the Explorers were Heather Barclay (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph's by the Sea), who had three shots, and Alexis Petrucci (Abington, PA/Bishop McDevitt), who matched that total.
Playing her final game at McCarthy Stadium, goalie Kerry Schamberger (Levittown, NY/St. Anthony's) made ten saves, including one diving stop on a Dayton breakaway. It was her second consecutive ten-save performance.
The Explorers will now wait to see how the conference shakes out for their playoff seeding. Regardless, they will travel to Massachusetts for quarterfinal game on Thursday, October 4th. Log back onto GoExplorers.com for complete playoff seedings and game times later in the week.
