All goals scored by freshmen

Philadelphia, PA - The La Salle University Women's Soccer team let one slip away this afternoon, falling to the visiting Duquesne Dukes, 2-1, in a physical game at McCarthy Field.

The Explorers (5-5-2) took an early lead when freshman Kristin Hextall (Voorhees, NJ/Bishop Eustace) received a pass from Shannon Plunkett (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) and tipped the ball home for a 1-0 lead. The squads played the rest of the half even, trading shots back and forth.

The Dukes (7-6-0) went on the attack in the second period, scoring two goals in four-minute span to take the lead. Freshman Faye Rasmussen scored the first in the 65th minute, converting after some commotion in front of the Explorer net. Freshman Nicole Nanchoff then followed in the 69th minute, giving the Dukes a 2-1 lead.

For the game, the Explorers out-shot the Dukes, 14-9, but their pressure never translated into goals. Senior Kerry Schamberger (Levittown, NY/St. Anthony's) made four saves in net for the Explorers, while Rachel Gecik made seven stops for the Dukes.

With the loss, La Salle falls to .500 on the season, and 1-3 in the conference. Their next game will be on Sunday, October 10th, when they host St. Bonaventure at CHESTNUT HILL ACADEMY. The game is slated for a 1:00 PM start. Any further venue changes will be posted on GoExplorers.com.
