PHILADELPHIA, PA - The La Salle University Director of Intercollegiate Athletics is proud to announce the appointment of Larry Connell as the men's and women's crew coach.
"I am looking forward to seeing where they [the rowers] are and where they want to go," commented Connell who was a full-time assistant at the University of Pennsylvania from 1984-2003. There, he had a hand in helping the program win multiple Eastern Sprint and IRA Championships during those years.
Prior to his experience at Penn he spent four years as an assistant at Rutgers University. His last head-coaching job was at Holy Spirit High School in N.J. (1977-79), where he led one of the largest and most successful high school rowing programs in the country.
Connell brings some international experience to La Salle. He was co-coach of the 1982 Italian silver medallist F.I.S.A. Jr. World Championships team. In 1983, he was co-coach of the French team, and in 1984, he coached the Swedish team. Both of these teams competed in the F.I.S.A. Jr. World Championships. Connell also coached the championship crew at Henley Royal Regatta.
Larry Connell replaces Matt Bergin as the crew coach for the Explorers.
