La Salle University Men's Varsity Crew

The first race of the season for the men's crew team was on November 13th when they participated in the Frostbite Regatta. The men's team broke down into two four-man boats for the heavyweight Varsity 4 races. Although they got a late start on training, the team still held high hopes that they were ready to race the other schools such as Lafayette and Ithaca. "I don't think we were very prepared for the race due to limited time we had to train, but we were prepared enough to finish strong in both races," men's captain junior Bill Lockard said.

La Salle raced back to back in their heats. The first boat was comprised of Ryan Fair, Bill Lockard, Jeff Laird, Matt Ryan and coxswain Sara Jones. The race was extremely close and came down to a photo finish. Initially, Ithaca was declared the winner but upon review the La Salle men won the gold by just a bow ball. They finished with a time of 4:56.11 while Ithaca finished 4:56.13. Also competing were Loyola, Old Dominion and Scranton.

James Keough, Sean Ahern, Matt Tiedeken, Mark Ricciardi and coxswain Francesca Cupo manned La Salle's B boat. Although the majority of the boat was comprised of lightweight rowers, they placed second just behind New York Maritime's B boat. The La Salle men finished with a strong time of 5:02.40 ahead of other B boats from St. Mary's, Lafayette and Haverford. Junior Matt Tiedeken stated, "Racing in a heavyweight event was intimidating, especially after seeing the size of the other rowers in our heat; after rowing the race, I was very pleased with our performance beating 3 of the 4 other crews."
