Philadelphia, PA - For the second time this season, sophomore Sean Connors-McBride (Stroudsburg, PA/Germantown Academy) was named as the Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week. During the same voting period, freshman John Welshh (Maple Glen, PA/La Salle College) was selected as the Co-Rookie of the Week.
In the only meet of the week against St. Bonaventure, Connors-McBride swam to a first place finish in the 1,000 free (9:45.65), 200 butterfly (1:52.83) and 500 free (4:41.83). Connors-McBride already held the first place spot in the 200 butterfly and 500 free in the Atlantic 10, but he beat his own times, shaving off 0:01.30 in the 200 fly and dropping 0:01.59 in the 500 event.
Welsh excelled in the sprints, claiming the top spot in the 100 and 200 free events. He finished with a time of 47.72 in the 100 free ancd improved his previous mark of 48.16. With a time of 1:44.37 in the 200 free, Welsh cracks into the top 16 list in the Atlantic 10 with the best time (based on last week's results).
The Explorers will look to rebound from their first loss of the season, a 123-120 defeat by St. Bonaventure, when they host the Penn Quakers on Tuesday, November 23rd at Kirk Pool. Catch Connors-McBride, Welsh and the rest of the Explorers in action starting at 5:00 p.m.
