Explorers Crush Seahawks, 75-52


South Orange, NJ - Ten different La Salle women's basketball players scored as the Explorers routed the Wagner Seahawks 75-52 today, Saturday, November 20, 2004 in the consolation game of the Seton Hall Basketball Classic.

The Explorers dominated the entire game and started it off with a 26-4 run in the first eight minutes of the game. La Salle led by 19 at the half and shot an impressive 50% from the field in the first period.

La Salle was once again led by sophomore Crista Ricketts (Douglasville, PA/Daniel Boone). Ricketts scored 15 points, pulled down five boards and dished out three assists. She was 4-5 from the field and 7-8 from the foul line as La Salle improved to 1-1 on the season.

Senior guard Jill Marano (Crofton, MD/Arundel) finished the game with 13 points, 11 of those points came in the first half and nine came from behind the three point arc. Senior Meghan Wilkinson (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown) shot 50% from the field as she accumulated eight points in the victory. Wilkinson also tallied five rebounds as did freshman Carlene Hightower (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Prendergast).

Also contributing offensively for La Salle was junior point guard Shaune McLaughlin (Somers Point, NJ/Mainland Regional). She recorded seven points and handed out three assists. Senior Monica Garrido-Sanz (Majadahonda, Spain/C.B. Majadahonda) also added seven points.

Junior Davineia Payne (Bear, DE/Caravel Academy) and freshman Melanie Gibbons (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater Raritan) both scored six points in the game and combined for dive rebounds.

Junior Lamera Ferguson (Syracuse, NY/Nottingham) added four points while freshman Alyse Hoover (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) tallied five in her first collegiate appearance.

La Salle will travel to the University of Pennsylvania for their next contest. That game is set for a 5:45 p.m. start on Tuesday, November 23rd at the Palestra. The Explorers will host Drexel in their home opener after the Thanksgiving holiday on Sunday, November 28th at 1:00 p.m.
