Explorers Dominate Friars 68-32

Ricketts netted 16 points and pulled down 11 boards for her second double double of the year.

Providence, RI - Senior Meghan Wilkinson (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown) set a new record in three pointers made as the Explorers downed the Providence College Friars 68-32 today, Wednesday, December 22nd.

 

The Explorers dominated every aspect of the game behind the offensive governing of Wilkinson, who finished the game with a career high 26 points. She nailed eight three pointers making her the all-time leader in three pointers made in a game, beating out Jenn Cole (1989-'93) and Sarah Haynes (1994-98) who both had seven.

 

The Explorers also held the Friars to just 32 points, the fewest points since La Salle defeated Manhattan College 62-32 January 14, 1989. This was the fewest points that Providence scored in the 31-year history of the program. Providence fell to Cheyney State 61-33 on December 9, 1978, the Explorers set a new record for fewest points cored in the victory today.

 

La Salle sophomore Crista Ricketts (Douglasville, PA/Daniel Boone) tallied her second double double of the season and seventh of her career as she netted 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Junir Shaune McLaughlin (Somers Point, NJ/Mainland Regional) also set a new career high as she dished out eight assists.

 

Head Coach Tom Lochner played all 14 members of his traveling party today for the Explorers, and eight different players scored. Junior Lamera Ferguson (Syracuse, NY/Nottingham) tallied nine points and pulled down five rebounds. Senior Jill Marano continues her journey to 1,000 points as she added seven points in the win. She now has 974 career points.

 

La Salle freshman Carlene Hightower (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Prendergast) added four points while senior Monica Garrido-Sanz (Majadahonda, Spain/C.B. Majadahonda), junior Davineia Payne (Bear, DE/Caravel Academy) and McLaughlin all recorded two points a piece.

 

The Explorers improve to 5-4 on the season and will break for the holidays before hosting the La Salle Classic December 28th-30th at Tom Gola Arena.
