Lacrosse Loses In Last Minute To Albany, 9-8

Hamilton, NY - For the second time in two days, the La Salle Explorer lacrosse team lost on Colgate's Tyler Field. The Explorers fall to 0-2 on the season, while Albany earned its first win to stand at 1-3.

The Explorers rallied from an 8-6 deficit with less than seven minutes to play, when junior Kate Henwood (Glen Mills, PA/Garnett Valley) and freshman Catie Borneman (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) each scored unassisted to tie the contest.

Albany controlled the draw and set up for the last possession. Nikki Donohue, passing from behind the cage, found freshman attacker Colleen McGuinness in front who dodged the goalkeeper and hit the net with her second goal of the season to lift the Great Danes to victory with just 24 seconds remaining in the contest.

Trying to rebound from a 13-6 decision to Colgate the previous day, the Explorers took a 6-5 lead midway through the second half. Sophomore midfielder Kristen Davis (Folsom, PA/Ridley) scored her third goal of the game to put her team ahead.

The Great Danes regrouped with three consecutive goals over the next seven minutes. Donohue, a sophomore attacker, drew her team even when she connected off a pass from Jenn Rajczak. Freshman Kate Fontana, who totaled three goals and one assist for Albnay, converted two free-position shots for an 8-6 advantage with 7:54 left.

La Salle's Borneman finished with two goals and one assists, while Henwood, an All-Atlantic 10 Conference midfielder, scored twice. Albany goalkeeper Jen Daly had 13 saves as the freshman earned her first win on the collegiate level.
