Worcester, MA- The LaSalle Explorer lacrosse team picked up their first win of the season with a 12-7 defeat of Holy Cross on Sunday afternoon. LaSalle improves to 1-3 with the win while HC falls to 2-4 with the loss.
La Salle sophomore Kristen Davis (Folsom, PA/Ridley) scored three goals and added two assists while junior Kate Henwood (Glen Mills, PA/Garnett Valley) netted three goals to lead LaSalle to victory.
Holy Cross jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 2:42 into the first half as junior Noelle Balestrino (Amityville, NY) scored on a free position shot. Davis single-handedly gave the Explorers the lead with back-to-back goals to give LaSalle a 2-1 lead. HC freshman Trish Sutton (Saratoga Springs, NY) scored two straight to give the Crusaders a 3-2 lead with 3:58 left in the first half. LaSalle then scored eight straight goals bridging the gap between the first and second halves to take control, leading 10-3 with 17:26 left in the game.
HC rallied to score four straight goals to cut the deficit to three goals with 2:41 left in the contest. Senior Katie Britt's (Winchester, MA) two goals sparked the Crusaders' comeback spurt. Unfortunately, that was as close as Holy Cross would get as LaSalle scored the final two goals of the game to pick up the win.
The Explorers will be back in action on Wednesday, March 17th at 3:30 p.m. when they tip-off their home opener at McCarthy Stadium. La Salle will play host to the American Eagles.
