Explorer Women Down Flyers 65-62

Dayton, OH - La Salle Head Coach John Miller and his Explorers broke a two game losing streak as they defeated the Dayton Flyers 65-62, today, Sunday, February 8, 2004. The Explorers improve to 11-10 on the season and 4-7 in the conference.

The game came down to the wire with Dayton's Jennifer Strong throwing up a desperation three at with just two seconds remaining. The three would of tied the game, but La Salle junior co-captain Jill Marano (Crofton, MD/Arundel) got a piece of the shot and the Explorers came away with the victory.

Marano recorded her first double double of the season with 18 points and a career high 10 rebounds, nine of which were defensive. Marano was just one of four Explorers to score in double digits. Junior Monica Garrido Sanz (Majadahonda, Madrid/Majadahonda) scored all 12 of her points in the first half, she also pulled down rebounds.

Also scoring in double figures was freshman Crista Ricketts (Douglasville, PA/Daniel Boone). She tallied 14 points in the win, and . Sophomore Davineia Payne (Bear, DE/Caravel Academy) scored eight of her 12 points in the second half, this was her second straight game in double figures.

Junior Meghan Wilkinson (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown) added seven points in thw victory and senior Kat Foley (Troy, NY/Averil Park) was the only other Explorer to score. She had two points. Wilkinson also pulled down seven defensive rebounds and led the team in assists with five, while Foley grabbed six boards.

The Explorers return home to Tom Gola Arena this Thursday, February 12th for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off against the Saint Bonaventure Bonnies.
