Posted by: Meaghann Schulte (215-951-1633)Philadelphia, PA - The La Salle University Baseball team is no longer undefeated at its home field as the Saint Joseph's University Hawks swept the Explorers 9-2 and 19-4 today, Sunday, March 21, 2004.
La Salle junior Anthony Boscaglia (Vineland, NJ/Sacred Heart) started on the mound for the Explorers in game one. He pitched in over four innings and struck out seven batters. He was relieved by sophomore John Reigsnyder (Flourtown, PA/La Salle), and juniors Chris Hughes (Wallingford, PA/Strath Haven) and Matt Kirsch (West Chester, PA/Archbishop Carroll).
Explorer freshman Rich Prall (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) was 2-3 and scored one of La Salle's two runs. The other run came from junior Phil Marino (Blackwood, NJ/Highland).
Saint Joseph's first baseman Bill McCollum (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) led the way for the Hawks as he was 3-5 in game one. He scored two runs and batted one run in. Saint Joseph's junior left handed hurler Ryan Hoagey (Hatfield, PA/North Penn) pitched all seven innings. He struck out nine batters and walked just two.
La Salle fell 19-4 in the second game behind the excellent batting of the Hawks. Saint Joseph's scored 19 runs before La Salle tallied one in the bottom of the fourth. The Explorers went on a late game rally, as they scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but the Hawks held on to sweep the Explorers.
La Salle's first run came from Prall's one run homer in the bottom of the fourth. Prall was 1-2, he scored one run and batted one in. Explorer senior Eric Ruhland (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) started on the mound in game two. He pitched just under two inning before being relieved by a slew of La Salle Pitchers.
For the Hawks, senior Jason Tarewicz (Chester Springs, PA/St. Pius X) was 4-6 and scored four runs while sophomore Ryan Stadanlick (Levittown, PA/Pennsbury)went 2-2. Stadanlick scored four runs and batted in six runs.
La Salle is now 10-4-1 on the season while Saint Joseph's improves to 4-18 on the season.
