Lacrosse Falls Short Against Bucknell, 5-4


Philadelphia, PA - The La Salle Explorer and Bucknell Bison lacrosse teams faced off for the third team since the lacrosse program started at La Salle on Tuesday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium. Tied at one win each, both teams were looking to take the series lead and after playing tied for more than 10 minutes in the second half, the Bison scored a goal to claim a 5-4 win and take the series lead, while La Salle fell to 3-6.

La Salle senior Tracy Guenther (Willow Grove, PA/Upper Moreland) knocked in a shot in front of the goal off a pass from junior Becky Boudwin (Springfield, PA/Carondal O'Hara)after 3:15 of play to open the scoring. Just 35 seconds later, Bucknell's Andrea Paraud (Bethesda, MD/Georgetown Visitation) tied the score on an unassisted goal.

Battling up and down the field for the nest 12 minutes scoreless, Boudwin won the batlle by putting the Explorers up 2-1. The teams again found themselves in a drought, as the first half ended with the score sitting at 2-1.

After the break, Bucknell regrouped at managed to knot the score at 2-2 on a free position goal by Tory Field (North Hampton, NY/Middlesex School). There was again a pause in scoring over the next six plus minutes, before
La Salle freshman Catie Borneman (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) drilled a shot past Bucknell goalkeeper Lizzy McDaniel (West Chester, PA/Unionville).

Freshman Tiffany Grossi (Ridley Park/Ridley) provided La Salle with a cushion goal to take a 4-3 lead with 15:24 remaining in the contest. Bucknell answered Falcone's goal 30 seconds later, when Meredith Wright (Bethesda, MD/Holton Arms) fed a pass to Laura Nuss (Englewood, CO/Cherry Creek) to again tie the score.

With 4:23 left to play, Wright netted the game-winning goal with the help of Burman to give the Bison the 5-4 decision.

La Salle goalkeeper Brittany Friedrich (Dayton, MD/River Hill) tallied 14 saves in the loss, while McDaniel posted 14.

The Explorers will take to the road to continue Atlantic 10 Conference play this Friday when they visit the nation's capital to take on George Washington at
4:00 p.m.
