La Salle sophomore Harold Grant (Wrightstown, NJ/Notre Dame) started on the mound for La Salle. He pitched in five and one third innings and struck out seven batters. Grant was relieved by sophomore John Reifsnyder (Flourtown, PA/La Salle) and freshman Gerard Breslin (Havertown, PA/Haverford), who combined for five stike-outs.
Rider scored three runs in the first inning, but the Explorers answered right back when freshman Rich Prall (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) knocked a two run homer to right field.
The Broncs then scored four runs in the second innings and took a commanding 7-2 lead. Rider would not score again in the game, but the Explorers rallied to score two runs in the both the fourth and sixth innings.
La Salle's two runs in the fourth came off senior Jay Snyder's (Milton, PA/Milton) single to left field and Reifsnyder's single scoring Prall and sophomore George Hudock (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown).
The Explorers trailed by just three with five full innings left to play. La Salle senior Eric Ruhland (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) was caught in a chase down between first and second bases when Hudock scored the Explorer's fith run. With two outs Reifsnyder stepped to the plate and hit a doubel to right field, sending Ruhland home.
La Salle, however, did not score another run and the Broncs held on for the 7-6 victory. The Explorers fall to 13-12-2 on the season and will host St. Bonvaneture this weekend in a single nine inning game on Friday, April 9th starting at 3:00 p.m. and in a doubleheader on Saturday, April, 10th starting at noon.
