Lacrosse Falls To GW


Washington, DC - The La Salle Explorers fell behind 3-0 in the first five minutes of play at George washington's Mount Vernon Field in northwest Washington Friday afternoon, which led to a 14-7 loss. The Explorers drop to 3-7 overall and 0-2 in Atlantic 10 conference play, while the Colonials extended their win streak to four at 6-5 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

The Colonials got a pair of goals from seven different players, including two from four-time A-10 Rookie of the Week, Laura Hostetler (Ellicott City, MD/River Hill) in the win.

After falling behind early, the Explorers got on the scoreboard at the 21:35 mark on a free position goal by Kristen Davis (Folsom, PA/Ridley) to make it 3-1. The Colonials scored the next four unanswered goals, including two by Hostetler, to take a 7-1 lead into halftime.

The teams traded the first six goals to begin the second half. La Salle struck first with Davis' second goal just 1:34 into the period on another free position shot. GW's Meghan McDonough (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) answered with a goal of her own a minute later. Then La Salle's Kate Henwood (Glen Mills, PA/Garnett Valley) added a goal at the 16:52 mark followed by a GW goal by Katie Kearns (Glennside, PA/Cheltenham) just 34 seconds later. Once again La Salle responded when Tracy Guenther (Willow Grove, PA/Upper Moreland) took a pass from Davis and scored to cut the deficit to 9-4 with 14 minutes remaining.

Feeling the pressure, GW responded with a pair of goals by Jamie Lee (Berkeley, CA/Berkeley) for an 11-4 advantage. The Explorers weren't finished, however, and added two more goals, one each by Catie Borneman (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) and Becky Boudwin (Springfield, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) to make it 11-6 with 10:34 showing.

GW then put the game away with three goals in a two-minute span, one each by Heisler, Mayer and Kearns.

GW freshman goalkeeper Emily Fortunato (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) faced 23 shots and saved 11 while La Salle's goalkeeper Brittany Friedrich (Dayton, MD/River Hill) faced 42 shots and recorded 15 saves.

The Explorers have a week to prepare for their next contest, when they return home to host the Temple Owls on Friday, April 16th at 3:00 p.m.
