Posted by: Meaghann Schulte (215-951-1633)Philadelphia, PA - La Salle University senior Scott Gehringer (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) hit a one run homer and scored one other run to aid the baseball team in a 2-1 victory today over the University of Duquesne Dukes. The Explorers then fell 10-7 in game two.
La Salle junior Anthony Boscaglia (Vineland, NJ/Sacred Heart) picked up the win in the game as he started on the mound. He pitched in six innings before senior Chris Hughes (Wallingford, PA/Strath Haven) came in at relief. Hughes was relieved by freshman Gerard Breslin (Havertown, PA/Haverford) who recorded his sixth save of the season.
Breslin then started on the mound in game two, and pitched in three and one third innings before being relieved by sophomore John Reifsnyder (Flourtown, PA/La Salle), Hughes, and senior Eric Ruhland (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge).
Freshman Rich Prall (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) went 3-4 in game two. He scored two runs and drove one in. Fellow freshman John Vincent (Glen Bernie, MD/Cardinal Gibbons) was 2-4 with a homerun. He also scored two runs and drove in two as well. Freshman Billy Kern (Northfield, NJ/Mainland) also went 3-4. He scored one run and recorded one RBI.
The Dukes scored at least one run in every inning of game two. La Salle had 12 hits while the Dukes had 11, but Duquesne still managed to gain the victory.
La Salle is now 19-23-2 overall and 5-16 in the conference. The Explorers will host Villanova this Tuesday, May 11th at 3:30 p.m. at Hank DeVincent Field.
