Philadelphia, PA - The National Soccer Coaches Association of America along with Adidas issued it's 2003 Middle Atlantic Regional All-American Academic Team naming La Salle University senior Matt Hemberger (Monsignor Donovan/Toms River, NJ) an Honorable Mention.
This is the 18th time one of Head Coach Pat Farrell's players has been named an NSCAA Academic All-American, and the second year straight for Hemberger. Hemberger adds this to his many academic accolades, including being named to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic team.
Hemberger, a 2003 team co-captain, also garnered Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference honors in 2002. Also during his junior year he took five shots, one on goal, and recorded his lone assist of the year against Fordham. He started in all 19 games in the back row.
As a sophomore, Hemberger recorded the only goal of his career, the game-winner in the Explorers 1-0 double overtime victory against St. Bonaventure. He started in 16 of the 17 games, and played in all 17. During his rookie campaign he played in 14 games, starting in nine, tallying six shots on the year.
