Explorers Fall To The Hofstra Pride 3-2 at the Hofstra Invitational
Hempstead, NY - On the second day of the Hofstra Field Hockey Invitational, the La Salle Explorer field hockey team was looking to return to the win column when they faced host Hofstra on Sunday afternoon in Hempstead, New York. In the end, the Explorers fell to the Pride 3-2, to fall to 2-3 overall for the season. The win pushed the Pride to a 5-2 season record.
After playing scoreless for more than 22 minutes, the Hofstra Pride sank a shot on a penalty corner to break onto the scoreboard. Kara McEneaney knocked in the shot with assistance from Sekayi Liburd and Sara Gonzalez at the 22:29 mark of the contest.
Less than two minutes later, at the 24:17 mark, the trio proved to be more trouble for La Salle, as they took advantage of another penalty corner to take a 2-0 lead.
After the first 35 minutes of play, Hofstra out shot the Explorers 8-1 and took their 2-0 lead into halftime. Looking to start fresh in the second half, La Salle broke its scoring drought when Becky Garry slipped in a rebound shot to bring the score to 2-1 at the 43:40 mark.
With time running down, La Salle's Emily Simone took a pass from Kristy Newell to tie the score at 2-2, with 3:39 remaining in regulation.
The Pride's Alexandra Alonge dashed the Explorers hope for a win, when she scored an unassisted goal with 2:07 to play to lift Hofstra to a 3-2 victory.
The Explorers will continue their road trip as they travel to Rider on Wednesday, September 15th for a 4:00 pm start.
