Coleman Lifts La Salle Over Philadelphia

Philadelphia, PA - Senior Kevin Coleman (Media, PA/Penncrest) scored the game winner today, Monday, September 20th as the La Salle University men's soccer team defeated Philadelphia University 1-0.

Senior co-captains Stash Graham (Tampa, FL/Jesuit) and Coleman led their team to yet another impressive defensive showing. Graham recorded seven saves in this his second shut out of the season.

Coleman's goal came in the second half when junior Scott Golden (Tampa, FL/Jesuit) pressured the ball and forced a corner kick for the Explorers. Freshman Mike Lehr (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) took the corner and hit a perfect ball just about seven feet off the ground.

Coleman started at the back post and made a charge to the near post and headed the ball in for the goal. He hammered the ball so hard that it went through the hands of Philadelphia University's goalie.

This is the third shut out of the season for the Explorers and the second in two games by two different goal keepers. Freshman Kyle Perdelwitz (West Orange, NJ/West Orange), this week's Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, tallied his first collegiate shut out in La Salle's 0-0 tie with Navy over the weekend.

Head coach Pat Farrell could not be more pleased with the play of his team right now, "We are really getting something from everyone on our team," expressed Farrell. "Our seniors are showing leadership, our juniors are showing consistency, the sophomores are giving solid play and the freshmen are giving us energy and excitement."

Graham now has 17 career shut outs. He is just one shut out from tying the all-time mark of 18 in La Salle University men's soccer history, which was set by Mike Kogut (1980-83).

The Explorers have played three games in the last six days and will take a break and return home to start conference action. La Salle will host George Washington University Friday, October 1st at 4:00 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium.
