Hanover, NH - On the second day of the Dartmouth Volleyball Tournament, the La Salle Explorers fell to host Dartmouth 3-1, followed by an immediate 3-0 loss to Harvard. The Explorers fall to 6-9 overall, while Dartmouth picked up its first win of the season to stand at 1-8 and Harvard is now 4-3.
Dartmouth claimed the match by scores of 30-20, 24-30, 30-23, 30-28, while Harvard took the win by scores of 30-23, 30-16, 30-21.
Senior middle blocker Lauren Woods (Akron, OH/Cayuga Valley Christian Academy) was named to the All-Tournament team for her effort for the Explorers.
Against Dartmouth, Abby Means (Stevens, PA/Cocalico) tied a match-high 14 kills and hit .219 for the Explorers, while Woods landed 12 kills in 29 attempts. Kara Branz (Streator, IL/Streator Township) had knocked down 11 kills for
La Salle.
In the dig category, libero Caitlin DeJong (Lansing, IL/Marian Catholic) posted a match-high 37 digs, followed by Kristen Kelsey's (Buda, TX/Jack C. Hays) 19 and Amanda Woods' (Cincinnait, OH/McNicholas) 12.
At the net, Means stopped two shots solo and paired up to record six assisted blocks. Lauren Woods added one solo block and five assisted blocks to the Explorers totals.
For Dartmouth, Sandi Beutler and Sarah Nadler each landed 14 kills, while Nadler led the way for Dartmouth with 25 digs.
After a brief intermission, the Explorers got back to work, this time against Harvard. Means led the team again with nine kills.
On defense, DeJong tallied 15 digs and Kelsey added 12, while Amanda Woods got in on the action with 10 digs.
The Explorers return home to Tom Gola Arena this Tuesday, September 28th to host Wagner at 7:00 p.m.
