Explorers Continue Their Perfect Record at Home with 3-0 Victory

Philadelphia, PA - The La Salle Explorer volleyball team kept its home record perfect with a 3-0 sweep of the Wagner Seahawks on Tuesday night. The Explorers now stand at 7-9, with a perfect 6-0 record at Tom Gola Arena, while the Seahawks slip to 2-17.

The Explorers fell behind early in game one, with the Seahawks mounting a five point lead on more than one occasion. La Salle finally showed some spark when Lauren Woods (Akron, OH/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) landed back-to-back kills to knot the score at 15-15. Kristin Kelsey (Buda, TX/Jack C. Hays) knocked down a kill to give La Salle its first lead of the game at 16-15. After trading points for the next few rotations, Wagner called a time out after the Explorers went up two at 24-22. After the break, the Explorers extended their lead and claimed a 30-23 win.

Game two saw La Salle build a four point lead at 12-8, and the Explorers never looked back, extending their lead to 11 at 24-13. In the end, La Salle took a 30-18 win into game three.

In what turned out to be the final game of the match, the Explorers ran off six straight points to put the score at 7-2. Wagner called a time out and scored the next two points, but it was a futile effort, as the Explorers posted a seven point run and took an 11 point lead at 17-6. Wagner made a drastic move, changing three players and then scored the next four points. La Sall quickly put an end to that run and the Explorers claimed a 30-17 win to end the match.

Woods led the Explorers with 14 kills (14-1-20, .650), while Kelsey added 11 (11-2-24, .375). Setter Amanda Woods (Cincinnati, OH/McNicholas) assisted on 39 of La Salle's 50 kills.

On defense, Carolyn Judge (West Chester, PA/Bishop Shanahan) tallied 12 digs for a match-high.

The Seahawks got eight kills from Molly Judge and Kerry Krohn, while on defense, Judge and Anna Mooney contributed seven digs each.

The Explorers will hit the road this weekend to open the 2004 Atlantic 10 conference season when they visit George Washington on Friday, October 1st at 7:00 pm.
