NEWARK, DE - The La Salle Explorer volleyball team took a drive down I-95 to take on the University of Delaware Blue Hens at Barbara Viera Court Tuesday night in a non-conference match-up. The Blue Hens swept the Explorers in three by scores of 30-23, 30-18, 30-27. With the loss the Explorers fall to 7-14, while Delaware improves to 8-13.
Sophomore Stephanie Owen recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 10 kills and 13 digs. Owen's 10 kills was a team best, and her 13 digs tied for second.
Christa Dominick added nine kills for the Explorers' offense. Setter Cailtin Conner assisted on 29 of La Salle's 39 kills.
On defense, libero Christa Dominick led the way with 17 digs and freshman Jackie Kushman contributed 13. At the net, senior Kara Branz tallied two solo blocks and two assisted blocks in the three games.
The Blue Hens got an offensive spark from Kelly Gibson who tallied a match-high 15 kills. Gibson also contribute on defense, matching Judge's 17 digs. Megan McGrath chipped in eight kills in Delaware's win.
On defense, Heather Ranck turned in a match-high performance of 26 digs.
The Explorers return home to the Tom Gola Arena on Thursday, October 13th when they host the St. Peter's Peahens at 7:00 p.m.
