Head lacrosse coach Julie Weiss will add nine freshmen to the 2006 roster. Weiss' recruiting class spans four states, including New York, New Jersey, Maryland and Pennsylvania.
Starting in farthest south, the Explorers add Emily Arceneaux (Fairfax, VA/Robinson Secondary), an attack and midfield player, who was selected as a Second Team All-Region and First Team All-District during her career. An all-around student-athlete, Arceneaux was a member of the National Society of High School Scholars as well as a Scholar-Athlete at Robinson Secondary.
Arceneaux will be joined by a former teammate from Robinson Secondary, as Nicole Shubert (Fairfax Station, VA/Robinson Secondary) will also don the Blue and Gold for the upcoming season. Shubert also picked up First Team All-District Honors, three times during her career. The attacker claimed First Team-All Examiner Honors as well as All-Mt and All-American Honorable Mention for her senior campaign. Like Arceneaux, Shubert is also a Scholar Athlete and member of the National Honor Society.
The neighboring state of Maryland will contribute a midfielder in Mara Sardella (Frederick, MD/Urbana) and a defender in Sally Poole (Lutherville, MD/Towson). Competing for Urbana High School, Sardella finished her senior year with 44 points (26 goals, 18 assists) in 16 games, for a team that finished 13-3 overall. She was the first Urbana and Frederick County player to be selected as a US Lacrosse Baltimore Chapter Honorable Mention All-American. Among Sardella's many accolades during her career she was named as the Frederick News post Defensive Player of the Year as a senior. Sardella competes for the FSLAX club team and picked up First Team All-Galaxy honors in her first year eligible. The defender, Poole was a two-year varsity player and served as captain during her senior season. Outside of Towson High School, Poole competes for the Skywalkers club team.
Moving ever closer to La Salle, the neighbor state of New Jersey provides the Explorers with Jessica Plsek (Madison, NJ/Madison), a defender from Madison High School. A three-sport athlete (soccer, track), Plsek was the recipient of the Most Valuable Defender and Lady Dodger awards. A team leader, Plsek served as team captain in both lacrosse and soccer. She was also chosen as a Second Team-All Division member. In club play, Plsek is a member of the Metro Magic Lacrosse Club that participated in the 2004 Vail Shootout. In her junior year, Plsek was a Second Team All-Galaxy selection for the Metro Magic.
Weiss also adds two local players in attacker Monica Breslin (Bala Cynwyd, PA/Haverford) and defender Ashley Murray (Milmont Park, PA/Ridley). A two-time Offensive Most Valuable Player, Breslin served as captain of Haverford High School. A scholar athlete, Breslin was a two-year Academic All-American selection and member of the National Honor Society. A three-sport athlete like Plsek, Breslin also competed in field hockey and basketball. On the club level, Breslin is a member of the Phantastix team. Murray mirrors Breslin in the three sports of lacrosse, field hockey and basketball. An Honorable Mention All-Central and All-DelCo, Murray was a three-year varsity starter at Ridley High School.
Rounding out the freshmen class from the north are Ann Anderson (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) and Maura Kenville (Manlius, NY). Anderson, an attacker from Christian Brothers Academy, competed for coach Doug Sedgwick. She also competed in basketball during her high school career. Kenville will serve as both an attacker and midfielder after finishing her high school career with 150 goals and 33 assists. Kenville boasts several honors including being a three-time First Team All-League and two-time Second Team All-Central New York selection.
With a returning core of veterans and this talented freshmen class, the 2006 lacrosse season at La Salle will be one to mark off on your calendars.
